The stage is set for the world’s greatest show. After years of excitement and anticipation, Expo 2020 is finally around the corner and Dubai is ready to welcome the world with open arms and covered masks! So what’s going to happen at the Expo? For the uninitiated, this handy guide is for you.
What is Expo 2020?
It’s not going to be a history lesson, we promise. Conducted once in 5 years, World Expos have been around since 1851 and provide a unique stage for countries across the world to come together in one common place. For Dubai’s Expo 2020, ‘Connecting Minds and Creating the Future’ is the theme and Dubai will become an innovation hub for the next 6 months with the rest of the world dropping by to share their ideas and creations that will shape our future. Think of it as an exhibition where the entire world participates - sounds grand, doesn’t it?
So how does it work?
For the first time in history, each country will get to host its own mini-exhibition in themed-pavilions. With over 200 pavilions, a visit to the Expo will basically be a trip around the world but within Dubai. Built around the themes of Sustainability, Opportunity and Mobility, each country has put its heart and soul into its pavilions to offer a rich insight into its culture, traditions, and technology.
What about UAE’s pavilion?
Shaped like a falcon in flight, UAE’s pavilion is ready to fly into everyone’s hearts. Over 4 stories tall totaling 15,000 sq m, this pavilion symbolizes the vision of our leaders to create a peaceful and progressive society and is all set to share its grand traditions with the world.
So what will a visit to the Expo entail?
Each country has planned cultural programs and activities that aim to entertain and educate about its unique and beautiful traditions. Don’t forget the gastronomic delights you’ll get to experience every time you visit. Imagine you fancy a visit to Australia - all you have to do is check out their pavilion and be transported to the country.
There are daily regular events and programs on special days to delight you. Check out their comprehensive calendar! We’re sure with over 200 pavilions, a one-day visit to the Expo will not be enough!
I’m excited! How do I get there?
Being the host of this year’s Expo, Dubai has left no stone unturned to ensure the arena is accessible through multiple modes of transport. Fancy a ride on the Dubai Metro? Hop on to the red line and get straight to the Expo 2020 station. Does a bus ride sound fun? The Roads & Transport Authority has organized 580 buses for Expo visitors and best of all, it’s free. There are also plenty of taxis available on the road.
The best part? Dubai is gearing towards an inclusive society, which means all the above modes of transportation are accessible.
So what are you waiting for? A whole new world awaits!
